Of course it won’t happen, but Thomas Friedman makes an excellent point that the months of political vacuum between election day and a new president’s inauguration is a liability in times of crisis. In this case the outgoing President, who was a lame duck long before November 4, lacks any capacity to take meaningful action on the country’s economic woes.
